History
History of St. John Bosco Parish, Maram
The roots of St. John Bosco Parish, Maram, trace back to 1956 when Rev. Fr. Peter Bianchi first visited Maram Khullen with a vision to establish a school at Sangkizang. However, the then Chief of Maram, Sagong Taruba, declined the proposal but suggested Bailangpou (Maram Centre) as a more suitable location. Inspired by this, a dedicated group of people migrated to Bailangpou, determined to create a Catholic village and an educational hub for the region.
With tireless efforts from the Fathers, missionaries, and religious leaders, St. John Bosco Parish was officially erected in 1990. This pivotal moment also led to the merger of the original St. Joseph Church into the newly founded Parish Church at Maram Centre.
The Parish was initially established in 1988, with Fr. Peter Bianchi serving as the first parish priest. However, it wasn’t until 2002 that a formal Parish Council was formed, providing structured leadership and organization.
Since its inception, St. John Bosco Parish, Maram, has remained a beacon of faith, learning, and community service. Guided by Catholic values, it continues to foster spiritual growth, education, and social development, touching countless lives across the region.
