Early Years

As initial steps toward that formation as a group of believers, they began to conducts unday Church services, first, at the cow shed of Pungdi Bamni, who was one of the founding members of the Church. Due to unavailability of proper houses, the places of Sunday Church Services of this group of believers later from shifting to the house of Hing Kabikang to co-operative house (one room rented) finally moved up to the present Church building site, where in due course of time, with a humble beginning, a thatch roof-house was constructed at the site.
Growth and Development: On seeing the growing numbers of Church members and the growth of the Church, Rev.Fr. John Med donated G.I (tin) sheets for roof construction of a new Church house. This new house stood for some years until it was demolished for the purpose of new construction of the present Church Building that was blessed by His Grace, Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, D.D.,
then Coadjutor Archbishop of Imphal and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Thomas Mulakyingkal Sdb, the Selesian Provincial of Dimapur Province on May 14, 2002. Church Administration: The Church that has reached thus far has undergone different phases of journey in its growth. From 60’s to early 80’s, the Church was under the administration of St. Mary’s Parish Punanamei; from 1983 to 1988 it was under St. John Bosco Parish, Senapati and from 1989 onwards, the Church was placed under the care of St. John Bosco Parish, Maram. Further, the church which was named earlier as St.Paul Church was christened as St. Joseph Church in 2002.
